1. The sound used was very dramatic and is non digetic. The editing was fast paced and added to the dramatic setting of the film, the setting was quite dark throughout the film, and as it was set in a isolated house in a forest this also helped to add to the dramatic effect. in terms of the cinematography, their was a large amount of point of view shots and certain points of the film were in black and white.
2. The technical elements identified to help find out what the genre of the film would be the fact it included a lot of violence and intense scenes would lead most audiences to believe it was a thriller or horror type film. Another convention that is evident in Dog soldiers is Fantasy, this is because it includes werewolves, which are not proven to be real. There is also an element of comedy.
3. Dog Soldiers does fit into the commonly used three clear stages of narrative, for example it includes an equilibrium, this is at the start of the film where the last private cooper is involved in a romantic scene and the general feeling of the film is calm. the next stage of the film, the disequilibrium is when the werewolves are first shown , this represents the conflict in the film. the final stage of the film is the new equilibrium, this is at the end of the film when the werewolves have been killed, then it becomes calm again. this type of narrative is known as Todorov"s theory.
4.Gender is represented in Dog Soldiers in a very traditional way in terms of the male role. For example the men portrayed are all very manly and they are all in the army, they are represented at brave and very masculine. On the other hand the traditional female role is challenged in the only female character, this is because she also acts in quite a masculine way, and is similar to the male characters.
5.Dog Soldiers represents the armed forces in a traditional way, it portrays a lot of commonly known characteristics of men in the army , such as bravery,and loyalty. They are also the characters which include the comedic element of the film, and they swear a lot which is a stereotypical characteristic of people in the army.
6.The film is aimed at an older audience ,from mid teens upwards. this is because it involves a lot of violence and swearing and includes a lot of things that a younger audience may not understand.
7. the film is rated as a 15, this is because a lot of blood and swearing is involved which wouldn't be suitable for a younger audience. It is classified as an 18 because it doesn't include violence to that extent.
